Modern fruits, vegetable market to open in Danyingone

The market will be opened within this year and we will try to continue improving it, said U Phyo Min Thein during a meeting with businessmen and government officials, including the vice president last week.

“When we researched and found out there is no fruit and vegetable wholesale market in the country, we decided to open the Dayingone wholesale market, with enough stores and cooling system,” he said.

“This modern high standard wholesale market was planned since the previous USDP party led government and we will continue the project and support it too,” he added.

The new Danyingone wholesale market is a joint venture between Myanmar Agro Exchange Company Ltd and Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC). Construction began in April 2015.

The market is being constructed on an 85-acre land of YCDC, with an investment of K118 billion (US$8.69 million).

“We build this market for farmers to link them with their customers and for buyers to go directly to the farmers without going through middleman,” he said.

The new market consists of four buildings and will also offers 2500 parking lots, a truck terminal, facilities for cleaning fruit and vegetables.

There are plans to build similar wholesale markets in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Muse, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
